• Do you have snapshots of people that are limiting how you<br />

see them?<br />

• Can you inquire about other successes they have had and<br />

multiply or expand your snapshots of them?<br />

• What are the snapshots of you? Are they more positive or<br />

negative?<br />

• Are you taking the opportunities to present the “collage” of<br />

your successes and efforts?<br />

Next, take the Meeting Menace Checklist to raise your awareness<br />

of the behaviors that can handicap your pursuit of being a Star<br />

Performer.<br />

13. MEETING MENACE CHECKLIST<br />

Check the box if you notice the behavior in <strong>yours</strong>elf, a direct<br />

report, or a peer at least one time in a two-month period.<br />

1. Gets irritated, upset, or angry in a meeting.<br />

2. Interrupts people frequently during a meeting.<br />

3. Uses questions like weapons. They are not really<br />

questions, but disguised statements.<br />

4. Over-talks issues advocating only one’s own ideas.<br />

5. Prevents people from managing or interacting <strong>with</strong> him<br />

or her. Says, “I just have one more thing to say,” and<br />

then continues to talk on.<br />

6. Makes disagreements a grand performance.<br />

7. Fails to build on others’ ideas.<br />

8. Refuses to acknowledge others.<br />

9. Puts others on the spot and urges them to express<br />

an opinion about a confl ict.
