MEETING PROCESS CHECKS<br />

Here are various ways to make sure your meetings are effective.<br />

It is good to vary the way you perform the process check.<br />

• <strong>On</strong> a 1-10 scale, how effective or satisfied are you <strong>with</strong><br />

today’s meeting? (Use the lowest scores to state what the<br />

team thinks needs to be improved.)<br />

• What was good, what was bad, and what needs to be<br />

improved regarding this meeting?<br />

• <strong>On</strong> a 1-10 scale, rate how on track the meeting was. What<br />

needs to be improved? (Use this at the halfway point of the<br />

meeting, asking each person to answer.)<br />

After<br />

The leader or meeting owner should:<br />

• Restore the room.<br />

• Make sure the scribe sends out minutes.<br />

• Evaluate meeting and meeting feedback.<br />

• Take agreed-upon action.<br />

• Prepare next steps.<br />

• Evaluate the effectiveness of the meeting. Focus on content<br />

and process. Most meetings are only content-focused, and<br />

yet what goes wrong in meetings usually has to do <strong>with</strong><br />

“process”—the “how” versus the “what” of the meeting. By<br />

not focusing some time on the process of the meeting, you<br />

miss the critical variables to improve the meeting. (See the<br />

Meeting Checklist on pages 166-167).
