• Hiring and Developing Others: “I don’t hire people to<br />

work for my company. I hire them to be my company. . . . The<br />

quality of people you hire determines how successful your<br />

business will be.” 78<br />

• Focus on Strengths: “Build on your strengths, and you will<br />

overcome your weaknesses.” Johnson talks about how Michael<br />

Jordan failed at a baseball career and he himself failed as<br />

a late-night talk host after eight weeks on Fox. He states,<br />

“Rarely can you turn a weakness into a strength. Greatness is<br />

achieved by building on strengths and managing your weaknesses<br />

so they do not matter.” 79<br />

“What I’m trying to do [is] leave a legacy for . . . minority people,”<br />

Johnson said. “I’ve <strong>always</strong> considered myself more than just a basketball<br />

player.”<br />
