enough in your organization.<br />

I made a mistake.<br />

If you don’t hear these often enough, you do not have the optimum<br />

climate for positive and responsible learning. Ask <strong>yours</strong>elf:<br />

• How often are these statements made in my organization?<br />

• What would help to make them safer to say in my organization?<br />

• How can I take more responsibility for the preparation and<br />

performance of my employees?<br />

12. PERFORMANCE REVIEW<br />

All of French’s team games are videotaped, and then the teamwork<br />

and individual player performances are studied and discussed.<br />

Usually, the highlights are accompanied <strong>with</strong> music and humorous<br />

commentary. Typically, the team strengths are emphasized. This is<br />

immediate feedback for the team. When mistakes are shown, they<br />

are framed in a context of learning <strong>with</strong> the idea of improvement<br />

in mind, so that they will not be repeated. In addition, the coaches<br />

are <strong>always</strong> taking the players aside during practice, to talk about<br />

their performance and what they need to work on. Each coach<br />

tailors his feedback to the individual player, in terms of her unique<br />

requirements for help <strong>with</strong> motivation, confidence, or specific play<br />

instruction.<br />
