WARREN BUFFETT<br />

Warren Buffett is one of the most successful investors in America’s<br />

history and exemplifies a Star Performer in <strong>Emotional</strong> <strong>Intelligence</strong>.<br />

In 2008 he became the richest man in the world, and he was<br />

runner-up in 2009 <strong>with</strong> $37 billion of net worth (he lost $25 billion<br />

between 2008 and 2009). 20 In 2010 Forbes has him as #3 <strong>with</strong> $47<br />

billion and Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico the new #1 <strong>with</strong> $53.5 billion<br />

and Bill Gates #2 <strong>with</strong> $53 billion.<br />

Buffett employs roughly 233,000 people in more than 88 businesses.<br />

21 He is truly a leader and a manager’s manager as he is one<br />

of the few people Fortune 50 CEOs go to for advice. His holding<br />

company Berkshire Hathaway has major stock ownership in many<br />

companies and was voted the #3 World’s Most Admired Company by<br />

Fortune magazine for 2010. In 2009 Berkshire Hathaway purchased<br />

Burlington Northern Railroad—a self-described all-in bet—and<br />

purchased a $5 billion stake in Goldman Sachs. This makes Buffett<br />

“a major stakeholder in the global economic recovery, <strong>with</strong> tentacles<br />

that span from coal to collateral debt obligations,” according to<br />

People have spent more than $1 million just to have lunch <strong>with</strong><br />

Buffett. Chief executives of companies in which he has a stake<br />

laud his patience, foresight, and ability to capture the essence of<br />

Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1930 as a middle child<br />

and the only son of three children. His father was a businessman<br />

and later a congressman. Buffett started school in Washington, D.C.,<br />
