What To Do If RecTrac Locks Up While Printing To Spooler
If you are printing (spooled) and RecTrac locks up at the Printing to Spooler screen, follow these
steps:
1 Try to close other applications that may be running.
2 Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to launch the Windows (Task Manager) Close Program dialog box.
3 On the list of open apps, you should see WINOLDAPP – not responding. Highlight it and click End Task. Ending
the WINOLDAPP process should release RecTrac, but your print job will be lost. Do not attempt to reprint it yet.
4 In Windows, go to Start � Settings � Printers. Find the printer to which you were sending the failed print job.
Highlight it and right-click for a menu and select Properties.
5 Click on the Details tab to see what the Port settings are. Some operating systems require that the printer port be
"captured" to a logical port name, while other operating systems will work with the printer queue name.
For example:
QUEUE NAME: \\vsi_srvr\hplaserjetq
CAPTURED: LPT3 = \\vsi_srvr\hplaserjetq
If your printer is pointing to a queue name, try capturing a port.
6 Go back to RecTrac, and edit the printer in question (Files � System � Device Maintenance � Printer/Device
Maintenance). On the Device/CTL Codes screen, make sure that the Printer Dev field matches what you set up
in Step 5.
7 Click Done to save your change and then try reprinting the print job.
General Printing Procedures
Printing in RecTrac
Setup:
1 Printing in RecTrac begins with the Printer and Device setup. In (Files - System - Other) - Printer/Device
Maintenance: Add or edit any of the many printer IDs that come pre-loaded in RecTrac. If you have a similar
brand of printer but a different port, you may wish to use the clone feature to create your new printer without
having to type in all the printer specific codes again. You'd just need to edit the Description and Prtr Dev fields.
Be sure to Test Print each printer ID that you plan to use.
2 Go to (Files - System - Users and Menus - ) Security File Maintenance - Devices Screen 3 of 6: Assign each
user to a default device for each of 11 application uses:
Report - to be used for printing reports
Pass - to be used for printing passes.
Photo - to be used for printing photo IDs.
Graph - to be used for printing graphs (future use).
Receipt - to be used for printing receipts in all modules except POS.
Label - to be used for printing labels.
Acs Tckt - to be used for printing Access Control Tickets and other custom ticket printing
(such as Trips).
Visit - to be used for printing receipts during Visit Processing.
POS - to be used for printing Point of Sale receipts.
MSR(Magnetic Stripe Reader) - to be used as a magnetic stripe reader for credit card
processing.
Other - for Future Use.
Having a "default" means that for every instance when you need to select a printer, a default printer will
fill in. In most cases, you can override the default with another choice at the time of the print job.
3 Go to (Files - System - Parameter Codes - ) Static Parameters - Screen 1 of 6, and fill in the Windows Print
Page Size fields. For printing with Windows Print Drivers, you need to enter the number of lines of printing per
page for each of the pitch sizes shown. This does not apply if you will be printing using RecTrac printer devices.
4 Also in Static Parameters - Screen 1 of 6, enter a valid Default Export Location. This field is necessary when
previewing or printing via a spooled method.
