Abstract
The present thesis set out to analyze the discourse of organizations in the field of
Human Resources and the relationship between the organization and the individual, bearing in
mind the modern organizational collective imaginary and relations of power within
organizations.
Considering that the companies occupy a prominent position in the life of the
individual, it is necessary to understand how the individual relates to them, to what extent he
has his subjectivity manipulated and how certain organizational discourses help towards the
internalizing of organizational culture on the part of the members of the organization In this
sense, it is important to understand organizational discourse not only as being a constituting
factor of social reality but also as an ideological practice that contributes to the construction
of social and individual identities.
The body of the research is composed of articles from the magazine Exame published
between 1990 and 2002. Through these an attempt is made to verify and analyze
organizational discourses in the field of human resources and the impact of these, in all their
varying categories, on the individual working within organizations in present day society.
The analysis of the articles made it possible to identify certain categories of discourse:
the successful super-executive in the organizations, the discourse on organizational
commitment, managerial modisms, the discourse on participation in the organization, the
discourse on health within the companies and the discourse on the best companies to work
for. In addition, organizational discourse related to human resources was analyzed not merely
from the angle of what is stated but also from the angle of what goes unstated and which can
be analyzed using a critical approach.
The result was the identification and the analysis of a set of elements that compose the
discourse of organizations and that permeate, intensely, relations of production within
organizations; success at any price, success that can only be achieved through hard work, the
exclusive presence of the companies in the life of the individual, the sporting worker who is a
winner (no room for the weak or for losers), loyalty to, and love for the company, the value of
dialogue (not always reflecting the effective participation of the individual in the decision
making process). These are some of the topics that make up the discourse of organizations in
the field of human resources found in the Exame magazine and which this present work
proposes to analyze.
