• To build awareness on value of cost and return analysis for understanding profit or loss in
organic vegetable production; and
• To learn and understand how records of production and labor costs can be used for cost and
return analysis of organic vegetable production.

• Records kept by farmer-participants (Note: Ask farmers to bring in all current records that they
keep for learning field and their own organic vegetable fields);
• Manila paper; and
• Pens and masking or Scotch tapes.

• Guided discussion and sharing of experiences
steps
1. Arrange participants in a circle for sharing.
2. Start a discussion by asking some volunteer-farmers to share their records on production and labor
costs of their own organic vegetable fields for this current season. Here are some records needed:
5 Records of production
5 Records of man and animal labor
5 Records of equipment used in organic vegetable farming enterprise
5 Costs and return
3. Guide a discussion to obtain accurate figures of production and labor costs of volunteer-farmers’
own organic vegetable fields and those in learning field. Here are some suggested guides:
5 Production records (e.g., indicate date, kind, amount and value of each product and byproduct
of organically-grown vegetables)
5 Labor records (e.g., labor used in enterprise including man, animal and implement hours for
each farm operation plus all expenses for hired work animals, implements and all ‘bayanihan’
labor)
