Compare the shape of this distribution to the one <strong>in</strong> figure 7.4b show<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

distribution of the 10 sample means for the five GDP values we’re deal<strong>in</strong>g<br />

with here. That distribution looks more like the shape of the normal curve:<br />

It’s got that telltale bulge <strong>in</strong> the middle.<br />

Part 2 of the Central Limit Theorem<br />

Figure 7.5 shows the distribution of the 50 data po<strong>in</strong>ts for GDP <strong>in</strong> table 7.1.<br />

The range is quite broad, from $92 to $515 per year per person, and the shape<br />

of the distribution is more or less normal.<br />

The actual mean of the data <strong>in</strong> table 7.1 and <strong>in</strong> figure 7.5—that is, the
