Pedro Salinas. Do you wish to send this contract to him yourself, or to have us send
it to him directly? In the latter case, please send us his address. We are holding the
copies of this contract that are to be signed by Mr. Salinas until we hear from you.

PEDRO SALINAS, hereinafter described as the author, and HENRY HOLT AND
COMPANY Incorporated, hereinafter described as the publishers, agree as follows:
1. The author hereby grants to the publishers full and exlusive rights to publish an
edition of his
POEMA DE MIO CID
Prepared for use in English speaking schools. Federico de Onís and M.J. Bernadete
have entered into agreement with the publishers to edit such an edition.
2. The publishers shall, within reasonable time, publish said work at their own expense
in such style and manner, and shall keep it in print as long, and at such times,
as they shall deem expedient. The publishers shall pay the author, on all
copies which they sell, a royalty of three (3) per cent computed on the published
price. Provided, however, that no royalty shall be paid on copies given away for
advertising purposes, or on those partly paid for by old books in cases of introduction
where second-hand copies of the displaces book are taken in exchange.
3. Settlements of accounts, up to each January and July, shall be had on the
twenty-fith day of each April and October respectively subsequent. The balance
to the author´s credit at any settlement shall be paid one-half in cash and the remainder
in sixty days. Whenever the semi-annual sales fall below fifty copies,
no accounting shall be had until the next semi-annual settlement after the sales
unaccounted for aggregate one hundred copies. The interest, property, and linbilities
of either party under this contract can be assigned without responsability
for any act or failure of the assignes, but can be assigned only in entirety.
