<strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g speculation emerged after Capta<strong>in</strong><br />

Herrick's <strong>in</strong>itial radar contact placed the suspect boats<br />

so far to the northeast of his position that these craft<br />

could have been Ch<strong>in</strong>ese Communist naval vessels on<br />

patrol from nearby Ha<strong>in</strong>an Island.<br />
