World War II. This primarily<br />

entailed a radio broadcast monitor<strong>in</strong>g<br />

mission with a handful of military<br />

and civilian stations, located throughout the<br />

French colonies, which belonged to a subsection<br />

of the French Colonial Office and, at the same<br />

time, was immediately subord<strong>in</strong>ate to the<br />

Governor General of Indoch<strong>in</strong>a. These sites were<br />

manned by over forty radio direction f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g<br />

technicians (speciaListes de La radiogoniometrie).otO<br />

In addition, the Gaullist military and<br />

diplomatic missions <strong>in</strong> Chungk<strong>in</strong>g. Ch<strong>in</strong>a, had a<br />

small monitor<strong>in</strong>g mission which probably listened<br />

<strong>in</strong> on official broadcasts from the colonial<br />

government radio <strong>in</strong> Hanoi. ot t This small group<br />

returned to Indoch<strong>in</strong>a with the first French forces<br />

which landed <strong>in</strong> Saigon <strong>in</strong> the fall of 1945.<br />
