to the east, and Tunisia to the south of the capital. The geographical distribution<br />

of the commercial partners of the Mataracızâde merchant house immediately<br />

reveals that this was a maritime trans-regional network covering several ports and<br />

hinterland locations. Table 2 shows the list of ports and hinterland locations in the<br />

provincial branch, including the number of collaborators at each of these locations<br />

(see also the map 10 in Appendix I).<br />

The business partners of the Mataracızâde brothers were clearly concentrated on<br />

the Black Sea: 43 out of 63, or more than two-thirds of all the collaborators, were<br />

located in eleven different locations in the Black Sea region, including the coast and<br />

the hinterland. Thirty-three of them, more than half, were based in the eastern<br />

Black Sea. The concentration of ports and the collaborators in the Black Sea region<br />
