MMX – Brazilian ProjectsCorumbá Projects A & B – July 6, 2006furnaces (MBF’s) in Brazil, to produce pigiron, initially entirely for the market. A steelmaking facility (with EOF, LF and CC) isthen to be developed, using hot metalfrom the MBF’s as feed to produce billetsfor export.The timing of the projects is given in theprior chart with Project A finished inSeptember 2007 and Project B inAugust 2008, with Steady Statereached in Q4 2007 and Q1 2009,respectively.The government of Mato Grosso do Sulhas granted MMX the rights to land forthe steelmaking complex in Brazil with thestipulation at the land they must spendUS$150 million over five years to developthe property. If they do not spend thisamount, the land can be taken away.As the projects are at different stages ofdevelopment and there are differentlevels of information available for each,Hatch had to make many assumptions inorder to complete its mandate. Theassumptions were discussed with MMXpersonnel during the course of the review,and the assumptions listed following eachproject description were accepted.The project discussions below have thefollowing format: description of theproject- including production capacity,ramp-up and timing, status and work todate; review of technology, raw materialsupply, capital expenditure (capex),região, entre os quais encontram-se aCompanhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD),Rio Tinto e a própria subsidiária da MMXpara mineração, que possui operaçãodenominada Mina 63, localizada a 18 kmda cidade de Corumbá, MS. O minériode ferro será utilizado para alimentar doismini altos-fornos (MAFs), para produzirgusa, sendo toda a produçãoinicialmente destinada ao mercado deexportação. Uma usina siderúrgica (comEOF, LF e LC), então, será desenvolvidautilizando gusa líquido dos MAFs comoinsumo para produzir tarugos paraexportação.O cronograma dos projetos está dadona tabela anterior, com o Projeto Aconcluído, inclusive unidade desintetização em setembro de 2007 eProjeto B, em agosto de 2008, comcapacidade nominal alcançada em 4ºTrim de 2007 e 1º Trim. de 2009,respectivamente.O governo do Estado do Mato Grossodo Sul, concedeu à MMX os direitossobre a terra para o complexosiderúrgico, com a necessidade decontrapartida de investimento da MMXde gastar US$150.000.000 durante cincoanos para desenvolver dos seus projetos.Se a MMX não investir esta quantia, aterra pode ser retomada.Com os projetos em estágios diferentesde desenvolvimento e havendo níveisdiferentes de informações disponíveispara cada, a Hatch terá de assumirmuitas premissas para completar seu224
