MMX – Brazilian ProjectsAmapa – July 06,20062.1.2 Status of Project DocumentsThere have been no studies or reports to date specificallyfor the Amapá pig iron project. Therefore, Hatch basedthis report on the Corumba Project, to the extent thatthere is a similar configuration. The Hatch review is alsobased on a visit to the potential plant site and the MMXport. There were also discussions with MMX personnel,where the Project concept was identified and variouscapital and operating cost estimates were provided toHatch by MMX.MMX has acquired a site location along the AmazonRiver, where a port will be installed to serve its Mine 66project. The studies carried out to date only consider therequirements of the Mine 66 Project. Further studies willhave to be completed regarding the ports ability toaccommodate the pig iron and steel billets of the Amapáiron and steel project, and the investment required for thisadditional capacity. MMX reports that an engineeringcompany that specializes in Ports has been hired todevelop the basic and detailed project for MMX’s portlocation.Some of the technology planned in Amapá is the same asfor the Corumbá project (mini blast furnaces), and somaterial from the Corumbá was used as possible.The raw materials supply plans need to be established;then a pre-feasibility/feasibility study needs to be done forthe Amapá Project.2.1.2 Status dos Documentos do ProjetoNão existem até está data estudos ou relatórios específicospara o projeto de ferro gusa do Amapá. Devido a estefato, a Hatch baseou este relatório no Projeto Corumbá,que tem configuração semelhante. Foram realizadas aindadiscussões técnicas com a equipe da MMX, onde oconceito do Projeto foi identificado e diversas estimativasde investimento e de custos de operação foram fornecidaspara a Hatch pela MMX.A MMX adquiriu um terreno na margem do RioAmazonas onde será instalado um porto para atender oseu projeto da Mina 66. Os estudos realizados até estadata somente consideraram as exigências do projeto daMina 66. Será necessário concluir outros estudos relativosà capacidade do porto de acomodar o embarque de ferrogusa e tarugos do Projeto, e o investimento necessáriopara esta capacidade adicional. A MMX informa que umaempresa de engenharia especializada em Portos, foicontratada para desenvolver o projeto básico e odetalhado para este porto.Parte da tecnologia planejada no Amapá é a mesma doprojeto Corumbá (mini-altos fornos), portanto o materialde Corumbá foi usado na medida do possível.Os planos de suprimento de matérias-primas deverão serestabelecidos para que então seja elaborado um estudode pré-viabilidade/viabilidade para o Projeto Amapá.372
