MMX – Brazilian ProjectsAmapa – July 06,2006There are two critical issues regarding the port:• There is a channel at the mouthof the Amazon River that is notdeep enough to accommodatefully loaded Panamax ships.MMX is investigating costs todredge the river in the area.Alternatively, MMX reports thatthe ships can be loadedaccording to instructions of theapplicable authorities up to50,000 tonnes deadweight(instead of 60,000 tonnes). Thepossibility of transshipment atEspadarte port, in the State ofPara, for higher capacity ships, isalso being analyzed.• MMX reported on May 30, 2006that: Texaco has a small terminalfor receiving petroleum products,which is located in front of MMXarea. The engineering design willbe performed so that operationswill not interfere with the Texacoterminal.• MMX reported on May 30, 2006that: The billets shipment will becarried out on the public harbor,located approximately 1 km fromthe MMX port. MMX has enteredinto negotiations with “CompanhiaDocas do Amapá”, in order to settlethe final commercial conditionsHá dois pontos críticos em relação ao porto:• Existe um canal na foz do RioAmazonas que não ésuficientemente profundo para anavegação de navios Panamaxtotalmente carregados. A MMXestá investigando os custos dedragagem do rio na área.Alternativamente, os navios serãocarregados conforme instruçõesdas autoridades responsáveis até50.000 toneladas de carga bruta(em vez de 60.000 toneladas).Também está em estudo apossibilidade de transbordo(transhipment) no porto deEspadarte, Pará, para navios demaior capacidade.• A MMX informou em 30 de maiode 2006 que: a Texaco tem umpequeno terminal pararecebimento de produtos depetróleo, localizado em frente àárea da MMX. O projeto deengenharia será efetuado deforma que as operações nãointerfiram com o Terminal daTexaco.• A MMX informou em 30 demaio de 2006 que: ocarregamento de tarugos seráefetuado no porto público,localizado aproximadamente a 1km do porto da MMX. A MMXestá em negociações com a“Companhia Docas do Amapá”,para estabelecer condiçõescomerciais definitivas.370
