The company is taking action to adhere to the Standards of Performance Regulations
of MERC. However, data in support of the achievement in this respect is not
available.
Background Information
MSEDCL has a very large customer base in the State. At the end of 2005, the
company had a total of about 1.37 crore customers comprising of about 98 lakh
domestic, 11 lakh commercial, 23 lakh agricultural, 2.9 lakh industrial, 1 lakh public
water works and public lighting, categories. The State was among the first to have
achieved 100 per cent rural electrification. Even as per revised definition of
electrification of a village, 86.5 per cent of the total of 41,095 villages have been
electrified leaving a balance of 5,500 villages to be electrified. Out of a total of
1,09,93,623 rural households as per 2001 census, 58,16,346 households have
electricity, representing 52.91 per cent of total rural households (as on 31 March 2005,
