The image of the lady is first inserted into a rectangle which clips the
image. The head and chest are cut out, inserted into the foreground
and automatically adjusted to the background image.
Placing Background Images
Background images are clipped by a path or mask (see page 11-1).
How to Insert Background Images
1. Define the outline in which the images will be inserted:
• Create or activate paths (see page 7-1 and 8-1)
• Activate layers (see page 16-1)
• Paint or activate a mask on the layout (see page 22-14)
2. Click , select LAYER | INSERT IMAGE, or press +E (Mac OS) or
CTRL+E (Windows). This opens the current image overview, a ‘gallery’
of thumbnail images.
Note:
If the image is not available there, use OPEN OVERVIEW in the MENU
window to select another image overview, or FILE | OPEN IMAGE.
3. Double-click the image you want (see also page 20-6).
The image appears on the layout inside the path or mask and the
TRANSFORMATIONS toolbar is displayed.
If you insert an EPS image having a clipping path, only the image
section enclosed by the path will be displayed. Linework cannot be
inserted ‘in the background’.
4. You can move the object with the mouse button pressed down, resize
and rotate it using the handles and transform it in many different ways
with the toolbar. For more details refer to Transformations (page
19-1).
• Click if you want to modify the image like a cut-out, i.e. without
being clipped by the path or mask (see page 11-7).
