How to Create Vector Masks
1. Open the image to be cut out (see page 20-6).

2. It is advisable to select MASKS | CLEAR.
This function removes masks from the screen. A vector mask may be
active but not visible in the currently displayed image area. If you do
not remove it, it will become a part of the mask you are creating.
3. Create a path defining the outline of the image area you want to cut
out. The mask may consist of more than one path.
Use the toolbar buttons or the functions on the MASKS | PATHS
menu. See Creating Standard Paths (page 7-1).
The tool (MASKS | PATHS | OTHER PATHS) starts the Path Editor (see
page 9-1), a useful tool for creating complex outlines.
You can also use the paths of text characters ( function).
4. You can modify (activate, correct, transform, delete, duplicate, frame)
the paths in the same way as you would do on a layout.
Use the toolbar ( ) or the functions on the MASKS | PATH
menu (e.g. ACTIVATE or TRANSFORM).

5. Place the finished cut-out on the layout using
COMPOSE | FOREGROUND (see page 11-9) – or
COMPOSE | MIXGROUND (see page 11-11)
The mask is saved automatically.
Tip:
The paths of a vector cut-out can be copied into the layout after placing
the cut-out there. You can use these paths for framing the cut-out, for example.
To do so, activate the layer (see page 16-1) and select COPY
PATH in the MENU window.
