• Trapping cannot be displayed on the screen.
Trapping
Trapping Individual Layers Manually
• You cannot define both soft edges and trapping for a layer. The
property defined last always overrides that defined previously.
• Trapping is not possible if you have activated both linework layers
and non-linework (CT images, text, tints etc.) layers. Activate these
layers separately.
• The form of the trap area may be different if you have the layout
trapped automatically.
• A layer can only be trapped against layers located below it (i.e. with
lower layer numbers). Trapping has no effect at layer edges shared
with layers located on a higher level.
• Choking a layer has no effect if the layers located below the choked
layer do not extend into the trap area.
• Manual trapping of linework layers is ignored if you trap the complete
layout automatically during layout export. The same trap setting
is applied to all linework layers in this case.
• If you simultaneously trap multiple layers which are not contiguous
(e.g. layer 2, 5, 7 as opposed to 2, 3, 4), the layers may temporarily
appear out of stacking order. A message appears informing of this
situation. The layers are displayed correctly again as soon as the
trapping function has finished.
Status Display for Trapping
Having closed the Transparency, Trapping, Soft Edges dialog, a STATUS
window appears which displays the specified trap settings for the current
layer. The following is displayed below TRAPPING:

For non-linework layers:

CENTER (= spread selected separations, choke others)
For linework layers:
LW ONLY (= no trapping against other layers) or
LW CT (= spread LW) or
LW CT (= choke or spread depending on background color)
