Transparency and Soft Edges
Creating Soft Edges for Layers
The STATUS window displays the following information about the transparency
of the current layer:
Opaque
The layer is 100% opaque (i.e. not transparent).
Invisible
The layer is 100% transparent (i.e. invisible) and the background is entirely
visible.
0–100
Simple transparency, the number specifies the degree of transparency
in percent. An average value is displayed if the color separations have
different transparency values.
C M Y K
Simple transparency, each color separation is either 100% opaque or
100% transparent. The letters indicate the transparent separations.
Complex
Complex transparency, e.g. a color transformation achieved by composing
the Cyan separation of 61% ‘foreground’ Cyan and –17% ‘background’
Cyan.

Creating Soft Edges for Layers
Note:
Layers with soft edges do not end abruptly at their borders but are
smoothly melting with their background. This functionality is particularly
useful for cut-outs.
You can also create soft edges automatically for specific layer types
when converting an ORIS PDF Tuner layout to another format (FILE |
EXPORT function). For more details refer to page 3-1.
How to Create Soft Edges
1. Do one of the following:
• Activate the layers to be soft-edged (see page 16-1), then select
SOFT EDGES in the MENU window.
