FDA har også på andre områder vist at de fungerer som et politisk redskap for makten, og
maktkampen mellom israelske og amerikanske krigsprofitører i 1988 tjener som et godt
eksempel: Utgangspunktet var at Israel på denne tiden forsøkte å stanse CIAs salg av
kjemiske våpen til Irak. De gjorde det blant annet ved å utøve et sterkt politisk press mot
Chile og Paraguay, to land som var delaktige i produksjonen av kjemiske våpen til Irak. Både
Paraguay og Chile var i ferd med å gi etter for Israels press, men det snudde da Paraguays
president Stroessner ble veltet i et CIA kupp, og FDA ”fant” tre druer som var injisert med
cyanid som de mente stammet fra Chile. Chile var avhengig av eksportmarkeder for
fruktavlingene sine, men på grunn av dette hendige funnet forbød USA all matvareimport fra
landet, og presset også på for at Europa skulle gjøre det samme. Dette fikk enorme
