including <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> solids, low temperature physics, elementary particle <strong>the</strong>ory,<br />

Bakhrakh, Lev D., D. Tech S. Born in 1921 in Ros<strong>to</strong>v-on-Don. <strong>Russian</strong> Physicist.<br />

Corresponding member since 1966. He was originally elected <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> General and<br />

Applied Physics Department. He began working at <strong>the</strong> Moscow Research Institute<br />

<strong>of</strong> Instrument Making in 1945, joining <strong>the</strong> Radio Engineering Institute in 1947. His<br />

works are in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory and technique <strong>of</strong> aerials. Recipient <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State<br />

Prize, 1951; Lenin Prize, 1961. (GSE 3, p. 15.)<br />

Bogdanov, Sergei V., D. PM. S. Born in 1921. Physicist. Specialist in accous<strong>to</strong>electronics<br />

and accous<strong>to</strong>-optics. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Physics and<br />

Astronomy Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1979. He graduated from Moscow<br />

Engineering Institute in 1947, and began working at <strong>the</strong> P. N. Lebedev Physics<br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>. Since 1963, he has headed <strong>the</strong> Electro-acoustics<br />

Labora<strong>to</strong>ry at <strong>the</strong> Semiconduc<strong>to</strong>r Physics Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Academy</strong>. He is also a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>. He has<br />

been a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at Novosibirsk State <strong>University</strong> since 1973. He served as <strong>the</strong><br />

coordina<strong>to</strong>r for research in accous<strong>to</strong>-electronics and accoust-optics for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong><br />

from 1971 <strong>to</strong> 1975. He is an Honored Scientist <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> former Soviet Union, and<br />

holds several medals in recognition <strong>of</strong> his research. He is a recipient <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Order <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Red Banner Badge <strong>of</strong> Honor Medal.<br />

Bonch-Bruievich, Aleksei M., D. PM. S. Born in 1916. Corresponding member<br />

since 1984. Specialist in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> quantum electronics and physical optics. Holder<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> USSR State Prize for his research in laser physics and development <strong>of</strong> solid<br />

state quantum genera<strong>to</strong>rs.<br />

Bugaev, Sergei P., D. PM. S. Born in 1936. Physicist. He has been a corresponding<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Physics and Astronomy<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAS since 1992. He is a specialist in electronics and<br />

electrophysics. He has authored and co-authored some 130 publications <strong>of</strong> which<br />

three monographs on electronics are well-known. He is also credited with nine<br />

discoveries or inventions. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Tomsk Polytechnic Institute imeni<br />

S. M. Kirov in 1959. He worked at <strong>the</strong> Nuclear Physics Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tomsk<br />

Polytechnic <strong>University</strong> from 1966 <strong>to</strong> 1973, and headed a labora<strong>to</strong>ry in atmospheric<br />

optics <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Physical Electronics Institute from 1973 <strong>to</strong> 1978. Since 1977, he has<br />

been <strong>the</strong> Chief <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electron Beams Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Heavy-Current Electronics<br />

Institute in Tomsk and since 1986, he served as its Direc<strong>to</strong>r. Institute scientists study<br />

<strong>the</strong> emission and formation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> intense fluxes <strong>of</strong> charged particles, <strong>the</strong> generation<br />

<strong>of</strong> heavy-current high voltage pulses and <strong>the</strong>ir influence on <strong>the</strong> condensed media, <strong>the</strong><br />

study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> gas-discharge plasma, and technologic applications <strong>of</strong> heavy-current<br />

electronics. The institute does research on <strong>the</strong>rmonuclear and accelera<strong>to</strong>r physics and<br />

laser technology. The institute was created in 1977 <strong>to</strong> research <strong>the</strong>rmonuclear and<br />

accelera<strong>to</strong>r physics and laser technology. He has been a pr<strong>of</strong>essor since 1984<br />

holding a chair in <strong>the</strong> Tomsk Institute on au<strong>to</strong>mation <strong>of</strong> management systems in<br />

radio electronics, where he has guided <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> one doc<strong>to</strong>ral student and six<br />

aspirants for <strong>the</strong> candidate degree. He is on <strong>the</strong> Scientific Council on Electronic<br />

Physics. He received a State Prize in 1986, and holds o<strong>the</strong>r medals for his scientific<br />

work. He is a recipient <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Red Banner Badge <strong>of</strong> Honor Medal<br />

Chernov, Aleksandr A., D. PM. S. Born in 1931. Corresponding member since<br />
