Primakov, Evgenii M., D. Econ. S. Born in 1929 in Kiev. <strong>Russian</strong> economist<br />

on <strong>the</strong> State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting. From 1962 <strong>to</strong><br />

1970, he worked at <strong>the</strong> Asia and Africa desk <strong>of</strong> Pravda as an analyst, and later as<br />

associate edi<strong>to</strong>r. In 1970, he became assistant Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> World<br />

Economy and International Relations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR. From 1978 <strong>to</strong> 1985, he was<br />

direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Oriental Studies Institute in Moscow. Since 1985, he has been<br />

Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> World Economics and International Relations Institute in Moscow,<br />

that was established in <strong>the</strong> mid-1950s. He became Academician Secretary <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Department in Oc<strong>to</strong>ber1988. He has written much on <strong>the</strong> economic, political, and<br />

social processes in Egypt and o<strong>the</strong>r Arab countries, on new manifestations and<br />

trends in <strong>the</strong> relations between developing nations and imperialist countries, and on<br />

certain <strong>the</strong>oretical problems <strong>of</strong> continuing international development. Nasser Prize,<br />
