Shabanov, Vasilii F., D. PM. S. Born in 1940. Physicist. Specialist in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong><br />

optico-electronics and molecular spectroscopy. Corresponding member General<br />

Physics and Astronomy Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department<br />

since 1990. In 1988, he was named a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Presidium <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Krasnoyarsk<br />

Scientific Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAN. He is head <strong>of</strong> a<br />

labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kirenskii Physics Institute in Krasnoyarsk. He has co-authored<br />

165 scientific works <strong>of</strong> which three are monographs. His work has contributed<br />

greatly <strong>to</strong> an expansion <strong>of</strong> knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> physical characteristics <strong>of</strong> molecular<br />

microelectronics. He is a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at <strong>the</strong> Irkutsk State <strong>University</strong> where he has<br />

overseen <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> ten aspirants for <strong>the</strong> candidate degree. He is a consulting<br />

specialist <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Technical Construction Bureau “Nauka” <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian<br />

Department, heads <strong>the</strong> council on au<strong>to</strong>mation <strong>of</strong> scientific research in <strong>the</strong><br />

Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center, and is on <strong>the</strong> Scientific Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAN on<br />

problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Spectroscopy <strong>of</strong> A<strong>to</strong>ms and Molecules.<br />

The Center was established in 1978 and its first Chairman was corresponding member <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> AN SSSR A. S. Isaev. The center <strong>to</strong>day is comprised <strong>of</strong> five scientific research<br />

institutes, a computer center, and several departments and labora<strong>to</strong>ries <strong>of</strong><br />

Novosibirsk institutes and a specialized design technological <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong><br />

Biotechnology, Instrumentation and Au<strong>to</strong>mated Control Systems. The independent<br />

research institutes include: The L. V. Kirenskii Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Physics, <strong>the</strong><br />

Biophysics Institute, The V. N. Sukachev Wood and Forestry Institute, <strong>the</strong><br />

Computing Center, and <strong>the</strong> Chemistry and Chemical Technology Institute. In 1992<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>tal staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center <strong>to</strong>taled 2276 <strong>of</strong> whom scientific<br />

researchers accounted for 899 <strong>of</strong> whom 64 held doc<strong>to</strong>rates and 431 held candidate<br />
