Mishin, Vasilii P. Born in 1917 in Moscow Oblast. <strong>Russian</strong> scientist in mechanics,<br />

control processes, and <strong>the</strong> physico-Technical Problems <strong>of</strong> power engineering.<br />

Academician since 1966. Also member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Physical Technical Problems <strong>of</strong><br />

Power Engineering Department. In 1941, after graduation from <strong>the</strong> Ordzhonikidze<br />

Moscow Aviation Institute, he worked in several research and design organizations<br />

and became a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at <strong>the</strong> institute in 1959. His work is in applied mechanics.<br />

Mitenkov, Fedor M. Born in 1924. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong><br />

since 1979; academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong> Machine Building, Mechanics, and<br />

Control Systems Department in 1993.<br />

Myasnikov, Veniamin P. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong> Machine<br />

Building, Mechanics and Control Systems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR from December 1987;<br />

academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong> Machine Building, Mechanics, and Control<br />

Systems Department in 1993. Also member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Far Eastern Department and<br />

Deputy Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Far Eastern Department since August 1988. He is<br />

currently a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bureau Governing Body <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department.<br />

Negin, Evgenii A. Born in 1921 in Bor, Gorkiy Oblast. <strong>Russian</strong> scientist in mechanics.<br />

Academician since 1979. He graduated in 1944 from N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force<br />

Engineering <strong>Academy</strong>, and since 1949, he has been engaged in scientific research,<br />

primarily in gas dynamics. Recipient <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State Prize, 1951 and 1953; Lenin<br />

Prize, 1959. (GSE 30, , p. 565.)<br />

Nigmatulin, Robert I., D. PM. S. Born in 1940. Engineer. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Machine Building, Mechanics, and Control Systems Department and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Siberian Department since December 1987, and academician since 1990. He has<br />

written 40 scientific works <strong>of</strong> which four are significant monographs. He has 21<br />

inventions and has co-authored ano<strong>the</strong>r 130 scientific publications <strong>of</strong> which three<br />

are monographs. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Moscow Technical Correspondence<br />

School imeni N. E. Bauman in 1963 and from <strong>the</strong> Moscow State <strong>University</strong> in<br />

1965. He began working at <strong>the</strong> Bauman school. From 1963 <strong>to</strong> 1986, he worked at<br />

<strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Mechanics, as a junior and senior researcher, leader <strong>of</strong> a sec<strong>to</strong>r and<br />

Head <strong>of</strong> a labora<strong>to</strong>ry. In 1986, he was named Deputy Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Handling<br />

Problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North Institute in Tiumen. He was a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at <strong>the</strong> Moscow State<br />

<strong>University</strong> from 1978 <strong>to</strong> 1986, and held a chair at <strong>the</strong> Tiumen State <strong>University</strong> from<br />

1986. As a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>the</strong>re he has guided <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> 10 doc<strong>to</strong>ral students and 35<br />

aspirants for <strong>the</strong> candidate degree. He is on <strong>the</strong> national committee on <strong>the</strong>oretical<br />

and applied mechanics. He is an Honored Scientist <strong>of</strong> both <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

GKNT.<br />

Novozhilov, Genrikh V. Born in 1925 in Moscow. <strong>Russian</strong> aircraft designer, a<br />

student <strong>of</strong> S. V. Ilyushin. Academician since 1984. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> S.<br />

Ordzhonikidze Moscow Aviation Institute in 1949, and worked in <strong>the</strong> aviation<br />

industry, becoming <strong>the</strong> principal designer at <strong>the</strong> S. V. Ilyushin Experimental Design<br />

Office in 1970. He directed <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Il-76T transport plane and <strong>the</strong> Il-<br />

86 Soviet wide-body airbus passenger plane. Lenin Prize, 1970. He is currently a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bureau Governing Body <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department. (GSE 30, p. 567.)<br />

Obraztsov, Ivan F., D. Tech. S. Born in 1920 in Kalinin Oblast. <strong>Russian</strong> scientist in<br />

structural mechanics and <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> strength <strong>of</strong> aircraft. Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Problems <strong>of</strong> Machine Building, Mechanics, and Control Systems Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

AN SSSR and <strong>the</strong> RAS since 1974. Member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RSFSR Council <strong>of</strong> Ministers.<br />

In 1944, he graduated from <strong>the</strong> S. Ordyhonikidze Moscow Institute <strong>of</strong> Aviation,<br />

taught and became a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>the</strong>re in 1957. He served as Rec<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> institute<br />

from 1958 <strong>to</strong> 1972. Since 1968, he has been President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Znanie Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
