Retrospect: The Nuclear Physics Department had 19 academicians and 25 corresponding<br />

members in 1987. In 1989, membership remained virtually <strong>the</strong> same with 18<br />

academicians and 27 corresponding members. The membership <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nuclear<br />

Physics Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy includes some very important nuclear<br />

scientists. The department counts a member from <strong>the</strong> Ukrainian and <strong>the</strong> Georgian<br />

SSR academies as well as <strong>the</strong> President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Armenian SSR <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong><br />

as members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department. Two <strong>of</strong> its members are board members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

General Assembly <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> GKNT; two are members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> national academy's<br />

Presidium; one a Vice President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> national academy and five are also members<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy. The rec<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Moscow State <strong>University</strong><br />

is also a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department. Twelve <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department are<br />
