7. Technological Construction Institute for Computer Technology in<br />

Akademgorodok under corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAS Semen T. Vas’kov<br />

(Vaskov)<br />

Vas’kov (Vaskov), Semen T., D. Tech. S. Born in 1934. Engineer. Specialist in <strong>the</strong><br />

au<strong>to</strong>mation <strong>of</strong> scientific research. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAN and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Siberian Department since 1992. He has authored and co-authored 72 scientific<br />

works <strong>of</strong> which one was <strong>of</strong> monograph length and consequence. In 1990, he was<br />

named Deputy Direc<strong>to</strong>r and in 1992, he became general Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

“Informatika”--<strong>the</strong> special scientific construction bureau <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ANR. He is on <strong>the</strong> Scientific Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy for <strong>the</strong> au<strong>to</strong>mation <strong>of</strong><br />

scientific research. He is a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at both <strong>the</strong> Novosibirsk State <strong>University</strong> and<br />

<strong>the</strong> Kishenev Polytechnical Institute. His major work is in developing a system <strong>of</strong><br />

digital car<strong>to</strong>graphy. As a pr<strong>of</strong>essor, he has directed <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> seven aspirants for<br />

<strong>the</strong> candidate degree. He is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scientific Council on <strong>the</strong> “Sibir”<br />

program. He also serves on <strong>the</strong> UNESCO program on regional statistics. He has<br />

been a consulting specialist on <strong>the</strong> telecommunications project for <strong>the</strong> Siberian region.<br />

8. Computer Technology Institute in Akademgorodok under Iurii I. Shokin.<br />

Academician Secretary <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> institute is Valerii V. Kobkov, C. PM. S.<br />

Shokin, Iurii I., D. PM. S. Born in 1943. Ma<strong>the</strong>matician. Specialist in computer and<br />

applied ma<strong>the</strong>matics. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information <strong>Sciences</strong>,<br />

Computer Technology and Au<strong>to</strong>mation Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1989;<br />

academician in 1992. He has authored 30 scientific works <strong>of</strong> which three are<br />

monographs and co-authored 120 publications <strong>of</strong> which three are significant<br />

monographs. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Novosibirsk State <strong>University</strong> in 1966 and<br />

worked at <strong>the</strong> Computer Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department from 1969 <strong>to</strong> 1975.<br />

From 1976 <strong>to</strong> 1983, he headed a labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Theoretical and Applied<br />

Mechanics Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department. In 1983, he was named direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Computer Center in Krasnoiarsk subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department. Since<br />

1983, he has been a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at <strong>the</strong> Krasnoiarsk State <strong>University</strong> where he has<br />

held <strong>the</strong> chair <strong>of</strong> applied ma<strong>the</strong>matics and mechanics and supervised <strong>the</strong> academic<br />

research <strong>of</strong> 15 aspirants for <strong>the</strong> candidate degree. He is a commission member <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> GKNT, and on <strong>the</strong> natural sciences committee for developing research methods<br />

in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> dynamics <strong>of</strong> fluids, and on <strong>the</strong> working group <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> natural sciences<br />

federation on information processes. In 1991, he was named <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Computer Technology Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAN in<br />

Novosibirsk, and in 1992 he became head scientific secretary for <strong>the</strong> Siberian<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAN.<br />
