Stishov, Sergei M., D. PM. S. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Physics and<br />

Astronomy Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> in 1993. He is currently acting Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> L. F. Vereshchagin High Pressure Physics Institute at Troitsk in <strong>the</strong> Moscow<br />

region.<br />

Tatarskii, Valerian Ilich. Born in 1929 in Kharkov. <strong>Russian</strong> specialist in radio physics.<br />

Corresponding member since 1976. He graduated from Moscow State <strong>University</strong> in<br />

1952. In 1954, he joined <strong>the</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Atmospheric Physics <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

national academy. He developed a <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> propagation <strong>of</strong> waves <strong>of</strong> differing<br />

physical nature in a randomly homogeneous medium, particularly in a turbulent<br />

medium. (GSE 30, p. 667.)<br />

Tim<strong>of</strong>eev, Petr V. Born in 1902 in Moscow. Corresponding member since 1953. He<br />

was originally elected <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Technical <strong>Sciences</strong> Department, and his principal<br />

membership is in <strong>the</strong> Mechanics and Control Processes Department. He graduated<br />

from Moscow State <strong>University</strong> in 1925. In 1928 he joined <strong>the</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ARO<br />

Electro-Technical Institute. He taught at <strong>the</strong> Moscow Higher Technical School from<br />

1925 <strong>to</strong> 1928, at Moscow State <strong>University</strong> from 1926 <strong>to</strong> 1941, at <strong>the</strong> Moscow<br />

Power Engineering Institute from 1933 <strong>to</strong> 1941, and at <strong>the</strong> N. E. Zhukovskii Air<br />

Force <strong>Academy</strong> from 1945 <strong>to</strong> 1948. He has held pr<strong>of</strong>essorial status since 1935. His<br />

works are in <strong>the</strong> pho<strong>to</strong>electric effect, secondary electron emissions, gas discharges,<br />

and electron optics. Recipient <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State Prize in 1946 and 1951. (GSE 25, p.<br />

Tim<strong>of</strong>eev, Vladislav B., D. PM. S. Corresponding member General Physics and<br />

Astronomy Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> in 1993. He is currently President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Scientific Council on Problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> "Physics <strong>of</strong> Semiconduc<strong>to</strong>rs."<br />

Troitskii, Vsevolod S., D. PM. S. Born in 1913 in Tula Oblast. Astronomer.<br />

Corresponding member since 1974. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Gorkiy in<br />

1941 and joined <strong>the</strong> staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Gorkiy Radio physical Institute in 1948. Since<br />

1956, he has been Deputy Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Radio Physics SRI in Gorkiy. Since 1973,<br />

he has acted as Chief <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Radio Astronomy Observa<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Radio Physics<br />

Scientific Research Institute at Gorkiy that was established in <strong>the</strong> 1950s. The<br />

institute is located at Gorkiy State <strong>University</strong> and has done research in plasma<br />

physics, spectroscopic systems, and high powered microwave devices--and is also<br />

involved in <strong>the</strong> search for life in outer space. His works are in radio astronomy.<br />

Holder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> A. S. Popov Prize, 1974. (GSE 26, p. 373.)<br />

Zeldovich, Boris Ia., D. PM. S. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Physics and<br />

Astronomy Department and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Urals Department since December 1987. In<br />

1978, he was a senior researcher in <strong>the</strong> Phase Coniugation Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Quantum Radio Physics Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Radio Physics Division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> P. N.<br />

Lebedev Physics SRI in Moscow. Since 1979, he has been a senior researcher in <strong>the</strong><br />

Mechanical Action <strong>of</strong> Laser Beams Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong> Mechanics<br />

Institute in Moscow that was established in 1955 <strong>to</strong> conduct research on gas<br />

dynamic processes, combustion instabilities, plasma, laser beams and shock waves.<br />

Zhelezniakov, Vladimir V. In 1984, he received <strong>the</strong> A. A. Belopolskii Prize in<br />

Astronomy for his research in <strong>the</strong> astronomical sciences. Corresponding member<br />

since 1987. In 1977, he was listed as a junior researcher at <strong>the</strong> Radio Astronomy<br />

Observa<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Radio Physics Scientific Research Institute in Gorkiy. He<br />

currently serves on <strong>the</strong> Bureau governing body <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Physics and<br />

Astronomy Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>.<br />

Zverev, Vitalii A., D. PM. S. Born in 1924. Corresponding member since 1979. Since<br />

1960, he has been a senior researcher in <strong>the</strong> Radio Astronomy Observa<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Radio Physics Scientific Research Institute in Nizhnii Novgorod which was<br />

established in 1956 as part <strong>of</strong> Gorkiy State <strong>University</strong>.<br />
