Sheremet’evskii, (Sheremetevskii) Nikolai N., D. Tech S. Born in 1916.<br />

Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information Science, Computer Technology, and Au<strong>to</strong>mation<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR and <strong>the</strong> RAS since 1984. Since 1973, he has been<br />

Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electromechanics Scientific Research Institute located in Moscow and<br />

directly subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electrical Equipment Industry. The<br />

institute does research in electrical drive systems and remote control devices. He is a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bureau Governing Body <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Informatics, Computer Equipment<br />

and Au<strong>to</strong>mation Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>.<br />

Shipunov, Arkadii G., D. Tech S. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information Science,<br />

Computer Technology, and Au<strong>to</strong>mation Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1984;<br />

academician in 1993.<br />

Shokin, Iurii I., D. PM. S. Born in 1943. Ma<strong>the</strong>matician. Specialist in computer and<br />

applied ma<strong>the</strong>matics. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information <strong>Sciences</strong>,<br />

Computer Technology and Au<strong>to</strong>mation Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1989;<br />

academician in 1992. He has authored 30 scientific works <strong>of</strong> which three are<br />

monographs and co-authored 120 publications <strong>of</strong> which three are significant<br />

monographs. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Novosibirsk State <strong>University</strong> in 1966 and<br />

worked at <strong>the</strong> Computer Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department from 1969 <strong>to</strong> 1975.<br />

From 1976 <strong>to</strong> 1983, he headed a labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Theoretical and Applied<br />

Mechanics Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department. In 1983, he was named Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Computer Center in Krasnoyarsk subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department. Its<br />

scientists model problems <strong>of</strong> plasma physics, and Chemical kinetics. In 1992, <strong>the</strong><br />

staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Computer Center <strong>to</strong>taled 302 people <strong>of</strong> whom 141 were research<br />

scientists and <strong>of</strong> whom seven held <strong>the</strong> doc<strong>to</strong>rate and 53 <strong>the</strong> candidate degree. Since<br />

1983, he has been a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at <strong>the</strong> Krasnoyarsk State <strong>University</strong> where he has<br />

held <strong>the</strong> chair <strong>of</strong> applied ma<strong>the</strong>matics and mechanics and supervised <strong>the</strong> academic<br />

research <strong>of</strong> 15 aspirants for <strong>the</strong> candidate degree. He was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> GKNT,<br />

and served on <strong>the</strong> natural sciences committee for developing research methods in<strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> dynamics <strong>of</strong> fluids, and on <strong>the</strong> working group <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> natural sciences federation<br />

on information processes. In 1991, he was named <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Computer<br />

Technology Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAS in Novosibirsk, and in<br />

1992 he became Head Scientific Secretary for <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Academy</strong>.<br />

Valiev, KamiA., D. PM. S. Born in January 1931 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Verkhnii Shander,<br />

Mamadysh Raion, Tatar ASSR. <strong>Russian</strong> specialist in semiconduc<strong>to</strong>r<br />

microelectronics. Since 1972, he has been a corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy,<br />

and an academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new department since 1984. In 1985, he was elected<br />

Deputy academician-secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy's new Information <strong>Sciences</strong><br />

Department. He graduated from Kazan' <strong>University</strong> in 1954. From 1957 <strong>to</strong> 1964 he<br />

taught at <strong>the</strong> Kazan' Pedagogical Institute. He was made a pr<strong>of</strong>essor in 1966. He<br />

was Head <strong>of</strong> a department at a ministerial Scientific Research Institute from 1964-5,<br />

and Direc<strong>to</strong>r-organizer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Microelectronics Scientific Research Institute at<br />

Zelenograd, under <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electronics Industry from 1965 <strong>to</strong> 1977. In<br />

1977, he was named <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> a department at <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Space Research <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> AN SSSR. In 1984, he became Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Microelectronics Institute in<br />

Yaroslavl that is jointly subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Physics and Astronomy<br />

Department and <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information <strong>Sciences</strong>, Computer Technology, and<br />
