Sheindlin, Aleksandr E., D. Tech. S. Born in 1916 in Kuybyshev. <strong>Russian</strong> specialist<br />

in heat physics and power engineering. Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Physical Technical<br />

Problems <strong>of</strong> Power Engioneering Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1974. In 1937,<br />

he graduated from <strong>the</strong> Moscow Power Engineering Institute and first worked as an<br />

engineer in a fac<strong>to</strong>ry and <strong>the</strong>n as an assistant at <strong>the</strong> institute. From 1945 <strong>to</strong> 1947, he<br />

worked at <strong>the</strong> Moscow Power Engineering Institute receiving a doc<strong>to</strong>rate <strong>of</strong><br />

technical sciences degree in 1954, becoming a pr<strong>of</strong>essor in 1955. In 1960, he<br />

became head <strong>of</strong> a labora<strong>to</strong>ry at <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> High Temperatures <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR,<br />

becoming <strong>the</strong> institute's Direc<strong>to</strong>r in 1961. Since 1967 he has also been head <strong>of</strong> a<br />

subdepartment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Moscow Physicotechnical Institute. He directed <strong>the</strong><br />

construction and operation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world's first experimental model magne<strong>to</strong><br />

hydrodynamic installation (U-02 in 1964) for <strong>the</strong> direct conversion <strong>of</strong> heat energy<br />

in<strong>to</strong> electricity and <strong>the</strong> first such industrial installation (U-25 in 1971.) From 1961<br />

<strong>to</strong> 1989, he was Founding-Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> High Temperatures Institute in Moscow<br />

that was created in 1962 <strong>to</strong> research <strong>the</strong>rmophysical and electrophysical properties<br />

<strong>of</strong> matter at high temperatures. It is subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy's Physical and<br />

Technical Problems <strong>of</strong> Power Engineering Department. Lenin Prize, 1959;<br />

department <strong>of</strong> that institute. In 1987, he was named Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> High<br />

Temperature Institute which was established in 1962 for researching <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>rmophysical and electrophysical properties <strong>of</strong> matter at high temperatures. (LDA<br />
