Bakeev, Nikolai F., D. Chem. S. Born in 1932. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General<br />

and Technical Chemistry Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since December 1987;<br />

academician in 1993. In 1987, he shared <strong>the</strong> V. A. Kargin Prize in physical<br />

chemistry with A. L. Volinskii and E. A. Sinevich. He is presently Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> Syn<strong>the</strong>tic Polymeric Materials in Moscow which was established from<br />

within <strong>the</strong> General and Technical Chemistry Section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAS. The Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Syn<strong>the</strong>tic Polymeric Materials (ISPM) was established in 1981 within <strong>the</strong> General<br />

and Technical Chemistry Section <strong>of</strong> <strong>Russian</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong>.<br />

Recent directions <strong>of</strong> ISPM's scientific activity are:<br />

R&D investigations in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> new generation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>rmostable syn<strong>the</strong>tic polymers and<br />

high-strength composite polymericmaterials;<br />

Research <strong>of</strong> syn<strong>the</strong>tic polymeric materials with special complex <strong>of</strong> electrical, magnetic,<br />

optical, acoustic and o<strong>the</strong>r physical properties;<br />

R&D <strong>of</strong> high-filled heterogeneous composite polymeric materials;<br />

R&D <strong>of</strong> flame-retardant polymers for different applications;<br />

R&D <strong>of</strong> solid-state reaction chemistry depending on outer fac<strong>to</strong>r influence like high<br />

pressure, shear rate, ultrasound vibrations and o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

Research in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> scientific background for high-temperature superconductive<br />

polymeric materials design;<br />

Co-ordinations <strong>of</strong> some State Scientific Research Projects dealing with new polymeric<br />
