Academician Nikita N. Moiseev, tel.135-30-23<br />

Moiseev, Nikita N., D. PM. S. Born in 1917 in Moscow. Specialist in general<br />

mechanics and applied ma<strong>the</strong>matical sciences. Academician since 1984. He<br />

graduated from Moscow State <strong>University</strong> in 1941. From 1948 <strong>to</strong> 1950 he taught at<br />

<strong>the</strong> N. E. Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School. From 1950 <strong>to</strong> 1955, he<br />

taught at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Ros<strong>to</strong>w. In 1956 he became a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at <strong>the</strong> Mocow<br />

Physicotechnical Institute. In 1961, he was appointed Deputy Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

computer center <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR and still holds that post under <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong><br />

<strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong>. In 1969, he was also made Head <strong>of</strong> an unidentified<br />

labora<strong>to</strong>ry under <strong>the</strong> Symbolic Information Processing Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Computer<br />

Center in Moscow. Since 1971, he has been dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Management and Applied<br />

Ma<strong>the</strong>matics Faculty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Physical Technical Institute in Moscow, under <strong>the</strong><br />

Ministry <strong>of</strong> Higher and Secondary Specialized Education in Moscow. Created in<br />

1952, this institute trains scientists for academy <strong>of</strong> science institutes and design<br />

bureaus. In 1977, he was made a co-direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Computer Center in Moscow,<br />

that is now subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy's Information Science, Computer<br />

Technology and Au<strong>to</strong>mation Department. His works are principally concerned with<br />

<strong>the</strong> dynamics <strong>of</strong> a solid containing a liquid, asymp<strong>to</strong>tic and numerical methods in<br />

ma<strong>the</strong>matical physics, <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> linear and quasi-linear motions, and optimal<br />

control <strong>the</strong>ory. (GSE 16, p. 419.)<br />

Academician Iuras K. Pozela, tel.62-71-22(Vilnius)<br />

Pozhela, Iuras K., D. PM. S. Born in 1925. Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Physical, Technical,<br />

and Ma<strong>the</strong>matical <strong>Sciences</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lithuanian academy since 1968. He<br />

has been an academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information <strong>Sciences</strong>, Computer Technology, and<br />

Au<strong>to</strong>mation Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1984. From 1967 <strong>to</strong> 1984, he served<br />

as <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Semiconduc<strong>to</strong>r Physics Institute in Vilnius that was founded<br />

in 1967. He has served as Vice President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lithuanian <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong><br />

from 1972 <strong>to</strong> 1984 when he became its President. He has served as President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Lithuanian academy since 1984.<br />

Academician Germogen S. Pospelov, tel.135-61-95<br />

Pospelov, Germogen S., D. Tech. S. Born in 1914 in <strong>the</strong> Moscow Oblast. Au<strong>to</strong>matic<br />

control scientist. Since 1966, corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mechanics and Control<br />

Processes Department, and academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information <strong>Sciences</strong>, Computer<br />

Technology Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1984. He graduated from Moscow<br />

Power Engineering Institute in 1940 and served as an engineer in an air regiment<br />

during WW II. From 1946 <strong>to</strong> 1964, he taught at <strong>the</strong> N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force<br />

Engineering <strong>Academy</strong> where he became a pr<strong>of</strong>essor in 1957. From 1964 <strong>to</strong> 1975,<br />

he served as deputy chairman and chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> section on applied problems <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Presidium <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR. Since 1974, he has been Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Au<strong>to</strong>mated<br />

Control Systems Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Computer Center in Moscow that was at that<br />

time subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy's Ma<strong>the</strong>matics Department. After 1984 it was made<br />

subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information <strong>Sciences</strong>, Computer Technology, and Au<strong>to</strong>mation<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy. His works are in au<strong>to</strong>mation <strong>of</strong> aircraft, <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong><br />

nonlinear au<strong>to</strong>matic systems, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> control <strong>of</strong> large systems. Recipient<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State Prize, 1972. (GSE 20, pp. 461-462.)<br />
