Pugachev, Vladimir S., D. Tech. S. Born in 1911 in Riazan. <strong>Russian</strong> scientist in<br />

mechanics, problems <strong>of</strong> control, and ma<strong>the</strong>matics. Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong><br />

Machine Building, MNechanics and Control Processes Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong><br />

since 1981. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force <strong>Academy</strong> in 1931<br />

and taught and researched at <strong>the</strong> academy until 1972. He has held a pr<strong>of</strong>essorship<br />

<strong>the</strong>re since 1939. He became head <strong>of</strong> a labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong><br />

Control in 1956. He has taught at <strong>the</strong> S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Aviation since 1972. His works are in <strong>the</strong> statistical <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> control processes,<br />

flight dynamics, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> canonical expansion <strong>of</strong> random functions.<br />

Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information Science, Computer Technology, and Au<strong>to</strong>mation<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1984. Since 1973, he has been Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Electromechanics Scientific Research Institute located in Moscow and directly<br />

subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Electrical Equipment Industry. The institute does<br />

research in electrical drive systems and remote control devices.<br />

Evtushenko, Iurii G., D. PM. S., Born in Krasnador in 1938. Corresponding member<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information Science, Computer Technology, and Au<strong>to</strong>mation Department <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since 1990. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Moscow Physical-Technical<br />

Institute with a master <strong>of</strong> science in aerodynamics in 1962, received his candidate<br />

degree in Flight Dynamics in <strong>the</strong> Physical and Ma<strong>the</strong>matical <strong>Sciences</strong> from <strong>the</strong><br />

Moscow Physical-Technical Institute in 1967 and his doc<strong>to</strong>rate in <strong>the</strong> Physical and<br />

Ma<strong>the</strong>matical <strong>Sciences</strong> from <strong>the</strong> Computing Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> in 1981. In<br />

1985, he was designated a pr<strong>of</strong>essor. From 1966 <strong>to</strong> 1976 he was a junior and<br />

senior research at <strong>the</strong> computer center and from 1976 <strong>to</strong> 1981, he was head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Optimization S<strong>of</strong>tware Department <strong>of</strong> that institute. He served as a Deputy Direc<strong>to</strong>r<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Computer Center from 1981 <strong>to</strong> 1989 when he became its Direc<strong>to</strong>r. In 1988,<br />

he became a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> International Ma<strong>the</strong>matical Programming Society. In<br />

1992, he became edi<strong>to</strong>r-in-chief <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> international journal Optimization, Methods<br />

and S<strong>of</strong>tware. His research interests include linear and nonlinear programming,<br />

decision support systems, optimal control, optimization techniques, numerical<br />

methods, and s<strong>of</strong>tware for solving global multicriterion optimization problems. He<br />

is presently direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Computing Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong>.<br />
