Tim<strong>of</strong>eev, Timur T., D. Hist S. Born in 1928 in Ivanovo. <strong>Russian</strong> his<strong>to</strong>rian and<br />

economist. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Economics department since 1966;<br />

corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong> World Economics and International<br />

Relations Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since August 1988. From 1961 <strong>to</strong> 1966, he<br />

was Deputy Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> World Economics and International<br />

Relations. Since 1966, he has been Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> International Workers'<br />

Movement Institute in Moscow which is subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy's Philosophy<br />

and Law department and which examines problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> international workers'<br />

movement and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> social composition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> working class both in <strong>the</strong> USSR and<br />

abroad. His works deal with labor issues, <strong>the</strong> democratic movement and <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory<br />

<strong>of</strong> scientific communism. The institute’s name was changed in 1991 <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Workers’ Movement and Comparative Poli<strong>to</strong>logy Institute. He<br />

Arba<strong>to</strong>v, Georgii A., D. Hist. S. Born in 1923 in Kherson. <strong>Russian</strong> his<strong>to</strong>rian and<br />

economist. Elected member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> Presidium in 1988. Corresponding<br />

member, 1970; academician, 1974--<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Economics Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>.<br />

Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new department, Problems <strong>of</strong> World Economics and<br />

International Relations, since August 1988. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Moscow Institute<br />

<strong>of</strong> International Relations in 1949. From 1949 <strong>to</strong> 1962, he worked for <strong>the</strong> Foreign<br />

Literary Publishing House and for several important journals. From 1962 <strong>to</strong> 1964,<br />

he was Head <strong>of</strong> a section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> World Economics and International<br />

Relations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>. Since 1967, he has been Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> USA and Canada<br />

Institute in Moscow. The Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> United States was created in 1968, and included<br />

research sec<strong>to</strong>rs in <strong>the</strong> academy dealing with North American concerns. In<br />

1974, <strong>the</strong> USA Institute was renamed <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> USA and Canada, with a<br />

Canadian section being created at that time. Its scholars research <strong>the</strong> his<strong>to</strong>ry,<br />

international relations, economic policy, and sociological and social composition <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> USA and Canada. In 1992, <strong>the</strong> institute had a staff <strong>of</strong> 254 researchers that<br />

included 34 holders <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> doc<strong>to</strong>ral and 150 holders <strong>of</strong> candidate degrees. Its staff<br />

includes one academician and one corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAS. His works<br />

Martynov, Vladlen A., D. Econ S. Born in 1929. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Problems <strong>of</strong> World Economics and International Relations Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Academy</strong> since August 1988; academician in 1993. From 1972, he was a Deputy<br />

Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> World Economics and International Relations Institute in Moscow,<br />

and in 1989 he was elevated <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rship <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> World Economics and<br />

International Relations Institute in Moscow which was established in 1956 taking <strong>the</strong><br />

place <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> World Economy and World Politics (1927-1947) and that<br />
