Scientific and practical activity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department is aimed at development <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

information-computer network <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute and intelligent <strong>to</strong>ols for studies in <strong>the</strong><br />

energy field.<br />

Main problems solved in <strong>the</strong> Department:<br />

Scientific principles and pr<strong>of</strong>essionally oriented computerized <strong>to</strong>ols <strong>of</strong> researchers and<br />

technologists on <strong>the</strong> base <strong>of</strong> expert systems.<br />

Development and operation <strong>of</strong> information-computer networks with distributed<br />

heterogeneous work stations for scientific studies, computerized designing and<br />

real-time control <strong>of</strong> energy plants.<br />

Ma<strong>the</strong>matical methods and algorithms based on <strong>the</strong> new technology and parallel<br />

computations using transpires and computer networks <strong>to</strong> solve problems in electric<br />

power systems.<br />

The Department is involved in supply with hard- and s<strong>of</strong>tware <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute's computer<br />

base (about 150 different modifications <strong>of</strong> PCs) and its local computer network<br />

including training simula<strong>to</strong>rs. The Department comprises a group <strong>of</strong> school<br />

informatics that is engaged in development <strong>of</strong> procedures for training pupils in<br />

algorithmic languages and work with PC.<br />
