Technological, and Biological <strong>Sciences</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lithuanian academy since<br />

1980. Academician Secretary since 1984. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Leningrad<br />

Veterinary Institute in 1952. From 1952 <strong>to</strong> 1968, he was a graduate student and<br />

researcher at <strong>the</strong> Helminthology Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR in Moscow. In 1968,<br />

he became Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Biological Problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Nor<strong>the</strong>ast Complex SRI <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR. Since 1970,<br />

he has been <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Biological Problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North Institute at<br />

Magadan which researches <strong>the</strong> structure, function and productivity <strong>of</strong> ecosystems<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn latitudes and methods <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir preservation and adaptation <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

nor<strong>the</strong>rn environments. His work is in classification, ecology, and zoogeography<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parasitic helminths <strong>of</strong> mammals. In 1987, he was given <strong>the</strong> E. N. Pavlovskii<br />

Gold Medal for his work in parasi<strong>to</strong>logy and zoology. (GSE 13, p. 372.)<br />

Ler, Pavel A. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Biology department and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Far<br />

Eastern department since 1987. (LDA 89-11378.)<br />

Neunylov, Boris A. Born in 1908 in Dankov, Lipetsk Oblast. <strong>Russian</strong> soil scientist,<br />

Agricultural chemist, and rice-growing specialist. Corresponding member since<br />

1970. Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> Agricultural sciences since 1966. Also a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Far Eastern Department. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Far Eastern<br />

Agricultural Institute in 1935. He worked at <strong>the</strong> Far Eastern Rice Experiment<br />

Station and on a rice-growing sovkhoz from 1935 <strong>to</strong> 1963. In 1964, he became<br />

acting Chairman and from 1966 <strong>to</strong> 1970 served as Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Presidium <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Far Eastern Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR. In 1973, he was made Deputy Direc<strong>to</strong>r<br />

for science <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> All-Union SRI <strong>of</strong> Rice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> All-Union <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> Agricultural<br />

<strong>Sciences</strong> located in Belogernoe, Krasnodor Krai. His works are in <strong>the</strong> physical<br />

chemistry <strong>of</strong> soils, regulation <strong>of</strong> oxidation reduction conditions and acidity <strong>of</strong> rice<br />

paddy soils, and <strong>the</strong> increase <strong>of</strong> fertility <strong>of</strong> rice paddy soils. (GSE 17, p. 505.)<br />

Rysin, Lev P. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Biology Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Academy</strong> in 1993. He is also currently a Deputy <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Academician Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

department responsible for organizing all scientific questions.<br />

Shestakov, Sergei V. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Biology Department <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since December 1987. In August 1988, he was selected as Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> General Genetics Institute in Moscow which was founded in 1966 <strong>to</strong> study <strong>the</strong><br />

selection and evolutionary genetics <strong>of</strong> plants, animals and microorganisms. He is<br />

also a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bureau governing body <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Biology Department <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>. (LDA 89-11378.)<br />

Tikhomirov, Vadim N. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Biology Department <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> since December 1987. He is also a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bureau governing<br />

body <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Biology Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>. (LDA 89-11378.)x/<br />

Vomperskii, Stanislav Ed. E. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Biology<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> in 1993. His also <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Forest Science<br />

Institute located in <strong>the</strong> Odintsovskii district, Moscow region.<br />

Yablokov, Aleksei V., D. Bio. S. Born in 1933. Corresponding member since 1984.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Yablokov in November 1991 was Deputy Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong><br />

Ecology <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> USSR Supreme Soviet with <strong>of</strong>fices in <strong>the</strong> Kremlin in Moscow. In<br />

1978, he received <strong>the</strong> A. N. Severtsov Prize for biology and animal morphology.<br />

Zhuchenko, Aleksandr A., D. Bio. S. Born in 1935. Academician <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Moldavian<br />

<strong>Academy</strong>'s Biological and Chemical <strong>Sciences</strong> Department since 1976.<br />

Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Biology Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong><br />

<strong>Academy</strong> since 1979. President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Moldavian academy since 1978. (LDA 89-<br />
