11. The Institute <strong>of</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matical Problems <strong>of</strong> Biology in Pushchino.<br />

Jointly subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information Science, Computer Technology and Au<strong>to</strong>mation<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>. Founded in 1992 from <strong>the</strong> Science Research<br />

Computing Center that from 1973 was subordinate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Biochemistry, Biophysics and <strong>the</strong> Physiologically Active Chemical Substances<br />

Department. It provides computer support for <strong>the</strong> Pushchino Biological Science<br />

Research Complex. Direc<strong>to</strong>r Molchanov, Albert M., D. PM. S., since 1973. (Letter<br />

from Dr. Molchanov dated 21 July 1992.) Also listed under <strong>the</strong> General Biology<br />

[Mizin Igor A., D. Tech S. Born in Moscow in 1935. Telecommunications Scientist.<br />

He is charge <strong>of</strong> large-scale data transmission networks, <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> new<br />

information technologies, and is project manager for regional and national network<br />

information systems in Russia. He has had long experience in education in Russia.<br />

From 1952 until 1959 he attended <strong>the</strong> Moscow Air Force Engineering <strong>Academy</strong> and<br />

graduated in 1959 as a radio-technical engineer; he received a PhD (Candidate <strong>of</strong><br />

Technical <strong>Sciences</strong> in Control and Technical Sysetems in 1966 and his Doc<strong>to</strong>rate <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Sciences</strong> degree in 1972. He became a pr<strong>of</strong>essor in Control <strong>of</strong> Technical Systems in<br />

1975. He was elected a Corresponding Member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Sciences</strong> in 1984. Since 1989, he has headed <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Informatics Problems<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> (IPIAN), and as its direc<strong>to</strong>r is responsible for<br />

<strong>the</strong> problems <strong>of</strong> computerization in Russia, <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> information<br />

technologies, <strong>the</strong> building <strong>of</strong> new PC architectures and PC-based systems, LANs,<br />

large scale data transmission networks, and PC s<strong>of</strong>tware. He is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Board <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Informatics Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>.,<br />

and heads <strong>the</strong> Scientific Council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> on Networks. He is <strong>the</strong> Chief<br />

Designer <strong>of</strong> projects <strong>of</strong> information-telecommunication regional systems in Russia,<br />

and heads major projects in <strong>the</strong> creation <strong>of</strong> special systems for both Government<br />

and State leadership. From 1959 <strong>to</strong> 1988, he worked in <strong>the</strong> Research and<br />
