Siberian Department’s Scientific Council on ma<strong>the</strong>matics and informatics and he is<br />

an honored consultant-specialist <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> council. He received <strong>the</strong> State Prize in 1988.<br />

Ko<strong>to</strong>v, Vadim E., D. PM. S. Born in 1938. Ma<strong>the</strong>matician/physicist. Specialist in<br />

Informatics and Computer Technology. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Information<br />

Science, Computer Technology and Au<strong>to</strong>mation Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> and <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Siberian Department since 1990. He is <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute for<br />

Informatics Systems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department in Novosibirsk. He is <strong>the</strong> author <strong>of</strong><br />

39 scientific works, and co-author <strong>of</strong> 67 <strong>of</strong> which two were monographs. Among<br />

his own books three are important: “Vvedenie v teoriiu skhem programm” (1978)--<br />

”Introduction <strong>to</strong> Programming”, “Seti Petri” (1984), and “Teoriia skhem programm”--“The<br />

Theory <strong>of</strong> Programming.”(1984). He is a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at Novosibirsk<br />

State <strong>University</strong> where he has guided <strong>the</strong> academic work <strong>of</strong> one doc<strong>to</strong>ral and 20<br />

aspirants for <strong>the</strong> candidate degree. He headed a working group on <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong><br />

programming <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Information Computer Technology, and<br />

Au<strong>to</strong>mation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>.<br />

Krugliakov, Eduard P., D. PM. S. Born in 1934. <strong>Russian</strong> physicist. Specialist in<br />

Plasma Physics and in <strong>the</strong> research problems associated with Thermonuclear<br />

Syn<strong>the</strong>sis. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Physics and Astronomy<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department<br />

since December 1987. He graduated from <strong>the</strong> Moscow Physico-Technical Institute<br />

in 1958. He began work in 1958 at <strong>the</strong> Budker Nuclear Physics Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Siberian Department, and in 1976 he has headed <strong>the</strong> Plasma Physics Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Budker Nuclear Physics Institute in Novosibirsk and has been Head <strong>of</strong><br />

"Krugliakov's Department." The institute is <strong>the</strong> leading nuclear research facility in<br />

Siberia. He was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principal organizers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> physics and ma<strong>the</strong>matics<br />

“school” at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Novosibirsk--for which students are carefully<br />

screened, tested, and selected from across all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> former Soviet Union for<br />

entrance. He is on <strong>the</strong> Scientific Council on Plasma Physics <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> national<br />

academy, and a permanent member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> national standing commission on a<strong>to</strong>mic<br />

energy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> national government. He received <strong>the</strong> State Prize in 1986.<br />

Krylov, Sergei V., D. Geog. S. Born in 1931. <strong>Russian</strong> geographer. Specialist in<br />

geophysics, and in seismic methods <strong>of</strong> research on <strong>the</strong> earth’s crust and <strong>the</strong> earth’s<br />

mantle. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry and<br />

Mining Department and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department since December 1987. He<br />

graduated from <strong>the</strong> Leningrad Mining Institute in 1955 and began working at a<br />

geological prospecting organization. He joined <strong>the</strong> Geology and Geophysics<br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department in 1961 and served in turn as a junior and senior<br />

researcher, and Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> Deep Seismic Research. In 1987 he was<br />

named Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Geophysics and shortly <strong>the</strong>reafter, Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

institute itself. He has been a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at <strong>the</strong> Novosibirsk <strong>University</strong> since 1979.<br />

Krymskii, Germogen F., D. PM. S. Born in 1937. Physicist. Specialist in nuclear<br />

physics and <strong>the</strong> physics <strong>of</strong> cosmic rays. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General<br />

Physics and Astronomy Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RAS since 1992. He has authored or coauthored<br />

207 scientific works <strong>of</strong> which three are major monographs. He graduated<br />

from <strong>the</strong> Yakutsk State <strong>University</strong> in 1959. From 1959, he worked at <strong>the</strong> Labora<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

for Cosmic Rays, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Space Physics Research and Aeronomy Institute in Yakutsk<br />

as a labora<strong>to</strong>ry assistant, a labora<strong>to</strong>ry technician, a junior and senior researcher, and<br />

Head <strong>of</strong> a sec<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>oretical Department, and in May <strong>of</strong> 1988, he was named<br />

Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Space Physics Research and Aeronomy Institute in Irkutsk that had<br />

been established in 1962 and is a center for <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> cosmic rays. He became a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department’s Presidium in 1988. He is an Honored Scientist<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Soviet Union. He was named Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Yakutsk Scientific Center in<br />

April 1989. In 1990, <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong><br />

established <strong>the</strong> Siberian Center <strong>of</strong> Solar-Terrestrial Physics in Siberia--a new<br />
