Ivanov, Svia<strong>to</strong>slav N. Born in 1911 in Nizhny Novgorod (Gorkiy). <strong>Russian</strong><br />

geologist. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, and<br />

Mining <strong>Sciences</strong> Department and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Urals Department since 1970. He<br />

graduated from <strong>the</strong> Sverdlovsk Institute <strong>of</strong> Geological Prospecting in 1932 and<br />

began working on <strong>the</strong> exploration and prospecting <strong>of</strong> copper deposits in <strong>the</strong> Urals.<br />

From 1940, he directed <strong>the</strong> Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> Physical Geochemistry at <strong>the</strong> A. N.<br />

Zavaritskii Institute <strong>of</strong> Geology and Geochemistry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Urals Branch (now<br />

Department) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AN SSSR. Since 1966, he has been Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> that institute and<br />

Deputy Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Urals Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Russian</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong>.<br />

His works deal with <strong>the</strong> regularities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> location <strong>of</strong> pyrite-type cupreous<br />

deposits. He established <strong>the</strong> concept <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> period and reasons for greens<strong>to</strong>ne<br />

metamorphism, that he believes occurred before <strong>the</strong> uplifting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sea floor and<br />

before <strong>the</strong> formation, in <strong>the</strong> volcanic region, <strong>of</strong> mountain structures connected with<br />

<strong>the</strong> intrusion <strong>of</strong> granite botholiths. Recipient <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State Prize, 1949. (GSE 10, p.<br />

Skripov, Vladimir P. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Physical Technical Problems <strong>of</strong><br />

Power Engineering Department and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Urals Department since 1987;<br />

academician in 1993. In 1982, he received <strong>the</strong> I. I. Popzuinov Prize for his<br />

scientific work.<br />

Tsidilkovskii, Isaak M., D. PM. S. <strong>Russian</strong> physicist. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

General Physics and Astronomy Department and <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Urals Department since<br />

1987; academician in 1993. In 1964, he was listed as a senior researcher <strong>of</strong><br />

unknown affiliation at <strong>the</strong> Metal Physics Institute in Ekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk) that<br />

was established in 1932 <strong>to</strong> work in magnetism and Metal Physics. In 1978, he<br />

received <strong>the</strong> A. F. I<strong>of</strong>fe Physics Prize.<br />

senior researcher in <strong>the</strong> Phase Conjugation department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Quantum Radio<br />

Physics Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Radio Physics Division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> P. N. Lebedev Physics<br />

SRI in Moscow. Since 1979, he has been a senior researcher in <strong>the</strong> Mechanical<br />

Action <strong>of</strong> Laser Beams Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Problems <strong>of</strong> Mechanics Institute in<br />

Moscow which was established in 1955 <strong>to</strong> conduct research on gas dynamic<br />

processes, combustion instabilities, plasma, laser beams and shock waves. (LDA<br />

Research Institutes under <strong>the</strong> Urals Department:<br />

In <strong>the</strong> mid-1980s <strong>the</strong> Urals Department added <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> a full academic department <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> academy becoming <strong>the</strong> Urals Department. In 1987, <strong>the</strong>re were 10 scientific<br />
