graduated from <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Water Transport Engineers in Vladivos<strong>to</strong>k in 1931<br />

and from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Petroleum Industry in 1951. From 1953 <strong>to</strong> 1955, he<br />

worked in <strong>the</strong> Yakutsk scientific geological management. In 1955, he became<br />

Deputy Direc<strong>to</strong>r and from 1964 <strong>to</strong> 1988, he was Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Yakutsk Scientific<br />

Center. He joined <strong>the</strong> Presidium <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siberian Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> academy in<br />

1969. He has served as <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Physical and Technical<br />

Problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North since 1973. His works include <strong>the</strong> design <strong>of</strong> gas wells, <strong>the</strong><br />

development <strong>of</strong> methods for calculating <strong>the</strong> reserves <strong>of</strong> natural gas deposits and for<br />

exploiting gas hydrate deposits, and container-pipeline transportation. He was codiscoverer<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> property <strong>of</strong> natural gas <strong>of</strong> forming deposits in <strong>the</strong> crust in <strong>the</strong> form<br />

<strong>of</strong> a solid gas hydrate. He served as a Deputy <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> 7th, 8th, and 9th convocations<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Supreme Soviet. He holds a number <strong>of</strong> medals recognizing his scientific<br />

contributions. (GSE 29, p. 131.)<br />

Dmitrievskii, Ana<strong>to</strong>lii N., D. GM. S. Corresponding member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Geology,<br />

and Eastern Siberia, proposes methods for accelerating <strong>the</strong> mining <strong>of</strong> oil and gas in<br />

Siberia, and is working on <strong>the</strong> natural gases found in a solid state in <strong>the</strong> Earth's<br />

crust. Dobretsov also heads <strong>the</strong> Geological Correlation Labora<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Geology<br />
