Single-Family Residential-Outer Banks (SFO) DistrictSFOS I N G L E - F A M I L YR E S I D E N T I A LO U T E R B A N K SA. DISTRICT PURPOSE B. LOT PATTERNSThe Single-Family Residential-Outer Banks (SFO) district is established to accommodate low- tomedium-density residential neighborhoods and supporting uses on the portion of the outer bankssouth of <strong>Currituck</strong> Milepost 13. The district is intended to accommodate residential and supportinguses in a manner that preserves sensitive natural resources, protects wildlife habitat, reduces trafficcongestion, and seeks to minimize damage from flooding and catastrophic weather events. A varietyof residential use types are allowed in the district, including single-family detached homes and detachedaccessory dwelling units (with a use permit). The district also accommodates minor utilities, as well asvarious neighborhood-supporting institutional uses such as parks, open space, shoreline access,religious institutions, and schools. All development in the district is subject to stormwatermanagement, dune and maritime forest protection, and special exterior lighting limitations. Majorutilities and marinas require approval of a use permit, while commercial, office, and industrial uses areprohibited.C.
