Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.2: USE-SPECIFIC STANDARDSSubsection 4.2.3: Institutional Uses(vii) Military, para-military or militia type activities or maneuvers,including but not limited to hand-to-hand combat training,maritime training, swamp, or guerilla warfare techniques,incendiary type firings, infiltration course type training, etc. ispermitted for use by law enforcement, military or federalagency groups only.(viii) All actual firing activities shall be directed toward eithermoving or stationary targets only.(ix) Any overnight or temporary storage of weapons, ammunition,and explosives shall meet the Department of Defense storageand stand-off safety standards.(x) In no case shall any explosive material be stored, either insideor outside a “magazine,” closer than 1,250 feet to a propertyline or dwelling unit and 300 feet to any roadway.(xi) The maximum amount of explosives on-site at any one timeshall not exceed 100 pounds stored and 10 pounds utilizedduring any one evolution.(xii) A listing of the type, amount, and physical location of allexplosive material shall be provided by the applicant to thecounty upon request.(xiii) The facility and all individuals working with explosives withinthe facility shall be certified and permitted by Alcohol,Tobacco and Firearms (AT and F) to conduct such operationsin compliance with its permits.(b)(c)(d)Driver Training and Vehicle Maintenance(i) The immediately adjacent areas to the driver training areashall be predominately undeveloped and shall be at least 5,280feet (one mile) from any property line located in <strong>Currituck</strong><strong>County</strong>.(ii) Burning of non-vegetative matter and disposal oftoxic/hazardous matter is prohibited.(iii) Stockpiling of tires and vehicles is prohibited.(iv) No driver training is permitted on any public road and alldriver training shall only be conducted in clearly markeddesignated driving areas.Rotary and Fixed-Wing Aircraft Operations and ParachuteOperations(i)(ii)Any training or operations involving rotary or fixed wingaircraft shall comply with FAA Part 91 and any and all otherapplicable FAA regulations.Any and all parachute operations shall comply with FAA Part105 and any and all other applicable FAA regulations.Dining Facility and Lodging(i)Construction of dormitory type structures to house not morethan 120 persons at any one time shall be permitted toCURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.18
