Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.3: ACCESSORY USE STANDARDSSubsection 4.3.2: General Standards and Limitations(3) Incidental accessory uses, such as mailboxes, newspaper boxes, birdhouses,dog houses, flagpoles less than 35 feet high, pump or well covers, and similarnon-habitable structures may be established without a zoning compliancepermit.D. Table of Common Accessory Uses(1) Table as GuideTable 4.3.2.E, Table of Common Accessory Uses, is established as a guide toidentify the appropriateness of the more common accessory uses in eachzoning district.(2) Listed Accessory UsesTable 4.3.2.E, Table of Common Accessory Uses, lists what types of accessoryuses, structures, and activities are allowed in each of the zoning districts.(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)If a specific accessory use is allowed by-right without a zoningcompliance permit, the cell underneath the zoning district is markedwith a “P”.If a specific accessory use is allowed as a permitted use subject to azoning compliance permit, the cell underneath the zoning district ismarked with a “Z”.If a specific accessory use is allowed subject to a use permit, the cellunderneath the zoning district is marked with a “U”.If the accessory use or structure is not allowed in a zoning district, thecell is blank.In the case of planned development districts, if an accessory use isallowable, it is marked with an “MP”, and the accessory use must beset out in the approved master plan.If there is a reference contained in the column entitled "AdditionalRequirements," refer to the cited section(s) for additional standards that applyto the specific accessory use.(3) Interpretation of Unidentified Accessory UsesThe Planning Director shall evaluate potential accessory uses that are notidentified in Table 4.3.2.E, Table of Common Accessory Uses, on a case-bycasebasis, as an Interpretation (Section 2.4.16). In making the interpretation,the Planning Director shall apply the following standards.(a)(b)(c)(d)The definition of “accessory use” (see Chapter 10: Definitions.), andthe general accessory use standards established in Section 4.3.2,General Standards and Limitations.The additional regulations for specific accessory uses established inSection 4.3.3, Specific Standards for Certain Accessory Uses.The purpose and intent of the zoning district in which the accessoryuse is located (see Chapter 3: Zoning Districts).Any potential adverse impacts the accessory use may have on otherlands in the area, compared with other accessory uses permitted inthe zoning district.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.47
