Chapter 4: Use StandardsSECTION 4.3: ACCESSORY USE STANDARDSSubsection 4.3.3: Specific Standards for Certain Accessory Uses4.3.3. Specific Standards for Certain Accessory UsesA. Accessory Dwelling UnitsAccessory dwelling units shall comply with the following standards:(1) Where Permitted(a) Accessory dwelling units in the SFM, SFO, SFR, or SFI districts may belocated within a principal structure (e.g., a downstairs apartment)subject to a zoning compliance permit (see Section 2.4.9) or as afreestanding building or above a detached outbuilding subject to anapproved use permit (see Section 2.4.6).(b) The use of manufactured homes, travel trailers, campers, tractortrailers, or similar vehicles as an accessory dwelling unit is prohibited.(2) Owner Occupancy RequiredThe owner of the lot shall reside on a lot containing an accessory dwellingunit.(3) Additional Standards(a) Not more than one accessory dwelling unit per lot is permitted.(b) An accessory dwelling unit shall have a floor area of at least 300square feet, but shall not exceed 1,000 square feet in size.(c) At least one, but no more than two, off-street parking spaces shall beprovided for an accessory dwelling unit (in addition to the requiredoff-street parking serving the principal use).(d) Accessory dwelling units shall not be sold apart from the principalstructure.(e) Accessory dwelling units may be used for home occupation uses but inno instance shall more than one home occupation use be conductedon a single lot.B. Amateur Ham Radio(1) Towers associated with a ham radio operator or private television antennashall not exceed 100 feet above grade.(2) Towers or antennas attached to a principal structure shall be located on a sideor rear elevation.(3) Freestanding towers or antennas shall be located behind the principalstructure.C. Campground, PublicPublic Campgrounds permitted as an accessory use shall comply with the followingstandards:(1) Campgrounds shall be publically-owned and operated;(2) Campgrounds shall not include permanent residences, except as necessary forcaretakers;(3) Individual campsites shall maintain a minimum size of 1,200 square feet in areaand at least 25 feet in width;CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE4.50
