Chapter 5: <strong>Development</strong> StandardsSECTION 5.1: OFF-STREET PARKING AND LOADINGSubsection 5.1.8: Loading Spaces(2) Bicycle parking spaces shall be provided at the rate of one bicycle parkingspace for every 30 residential dwelling units and/or every 5,000 square feet ofnonresidential floor area.(3) Bicycle facilities shall include a rack or other device to enable bicycles to besecured.B. Shared Bicycle ParkingNonresidential uses of 30,000 square feet in size or less may share bicycle parkingspaces provided:(1) Each use provides or is served by improved pedestrian access from the bicycleparking facility to the primary building entrance; and(2) The shared bicycle parking facility and improved pedestrian access is depictedon a site plan (see Section 2.4.7).5.1.8. Loading SpacesA. Number of Required Off-street Loading BerthsThe following uses shall provide on-site loading areas or berths in accordance with thestandards in Table 5.1.8, Required Off-Street Loading Berths.TABLE 5.1.8: REQUIRED OFF-STREET LOADING BERTHS [1]USE OR ACTIVITYOffices and personal service establishments inmulti-story buildings [2]GROSS FLOORAREA (GFA)MINIMUM NUMBER OFLOADING BERTHS7,500 sf or more 17,500 sf – 30,000 sf 1All other commercial or industrial use types [1]2 + 1 per every additional 20,000 sf30,001 sf or moreof GFANOTES:[1] Residential floor area within a mixed–use development is not included within the GFA.[2] Single-story buildings may utilize temporary loading spaces.B. Standards(1) Minimum DimensionsEach loading space required by this subsection shall be at least 12 feet wide by30 feet long (or deep), with at least 15 feet of overhead clearance. Each offstreetloading space shall have adequate, unobstructed means for the ingressand egress of vehicles.(2) LocationWhere possible, loading areas shall be located to the rear of the use theyserve. In addition, the loading area shall be located adjacent to the buildingsloading doors, in an area that promotes their practical use.(3) Delineation of Loading SpacesAll loading spaces shall be delineated by signage and striping and labeling of thepavement.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE5.17
