NONRESIDENTIAL DESIGN STANDARDS5.8.1. Purpose and IntentThese design standards are intended to identify the county’s goals and expectations forcommercial, office, and mixed-use development quality as a means of establishing higher qualitydevelopment that is more compatible with residential development in the county. Morespecifically, the purposes of this section are to:A. Encourage establishment of a strong sense of place with vibrant commercial, office,and mixed-use development in key areas of the county;B. Encourage a more pedestrian-friendly environment through attention to human-scaledesign and site features;C. Foster greater compatibility between adjacent residential and nonresidentialdevelopment;D. Limit the impacts of automobile–oriented development in commercial, office, andmixed-use areas; andE.
