Chapter 5: <strong>Development</strong> StandardsSECTION 5.8: NONRESIDENTIAL DESIGN STANDARDSSubsection 5.8.1: Purpose and IntentFigure 5.7.3.D, Garage Placement(c)(d)(e)Accessory buildings shall include exterior materials, colors, and roofform designed to be consistent with the principal structure.Accessory structures shall not physically obstruct pedestrianentrances.Centralized trash receptacles, if provided, shall be located in anenclosed area located to the rear of principal buildings.5.8. NONRESIDENTIAL DESIGN STANDARDS5.8.1. Purpose and IntentThese design standards are intended to identify the county’s goals and expectations forcommercial, office, and mixed-use development quality as a means of establishing higher qualitydevelopment that is more compatible with residential development in the county. Morespecifically, the purposes of this section are to:A. Encourage establishment of a strong sense of place with vibrant commercial, office,and mixed-use development in key areas of the county;B. Encourage a more pedestrian-friendly environment through attention to human-scaledesign and site features;C. Foster greater compatibility between adjacent residential and nonresidentialdevelopment;D. Limit the impacts of automobile–oriented development in commercial, office, andmixed-use areas; andE.
