Chapter 5: <strong>Development</strong> StandardsSECTION 5.1: OFF-STREET PARKING AND LOADINGSubsection 5.1.6: Alternative Parking Plansto 60 percent when the uses share parking spaces located within a parkingstructure.(5) Directional SignageWhen determined necessary by the Planning Director due to distance, indirectlocations, or visual barriers, directional signage that complies with thestandards of this <strong>Ordinance</strong> shall be provided to direct the public to theshared parking spaces.(6) Shared Parking Plan(a)(b)(c)JustificationThose requesting to use shared parking as a means of satisfying theoff-street parking standards must submit a parking demand study aspart of an Alternative Parking Plan that justifies the feasibility of sharedparking. Justification shall include information on the size and type ofthe proposed development, the composition of tenants, theanticipated rate of parking turnover, and the anticipated peak parkingand traffic loads for all uses that will be sharing off-street parkingspaces.Recorded AgreementThe parking demand study portion of an Alternative Parking Plan shallbe enforced through written agreement among all owners of record.An attested copy of the agreement between the owners of recordmust be recorded with the <strong>Currituck</strong> <strong>County</strong> Register of Deeds.Recordation of the agreement shall take place prior to occupancy forany use to be served by the shared parking area. A shared parkingagreement may be revoked only if all required off-street parkingspaces is provided in accordance with the requirements of Table5.1.3.C, Minimum Off-Street Parking Standards.DurationA shared parking agreement shall remain in effect until one or more ofthe uses subject to the agreement changes.C. Off-Site Parking for Nonresidential UsesGenerally, all off-street parking areas for any nonresidential use shall be provided onthe same parcel of land as the use it serves. Off-street parking for nonresidential usesmay be located on another parcel of land, if there are practical difficulties in locatingthe parking area on-site or the public safety or public convenience is better served byoff-site parking. Off-site parking for nonresidential uses shall comply with thefollowing standards:(1) Maximum DistanceOff-site parking shall be located no more than 2,000 feet from the use it isintended to serve.(2) Pedestrian Way RequiredA pedestrian way that complies with all applicable ADA requirements, and isnot more than 2,000 feet in length, shall be provided from the off-site parkingarea to the use it serves.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE5.14
