Chapter 10: Definitions and MeasurementSECTION 10.4: USE CLASSIFICATIONS, USE CATEGORIES, AND USE TYPESSubsection 10.4.5: Commercial Use Classification(2) ExamplesExample Use Types include uses from the following groups:(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)(3) Exceptions(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)Bars, Nightclubs, and Similar EstablishmentsEstablishments primarily devoted to the sale of alcoholic beverages foron-site consumption, along with dancing or other forms ofentertainment (including live performances), and in which the sale offood is incidental.Entertainment EstablishmentsIndoor continuous entertainment activities such as game arcades, poolhalls, and indoor firing ranges.Personal Services EstablishmentsEstablishments meeting frequent or recurrent service needs of apersonal nature, including financial institutions like check cashingestablishments or payroll lenders, laundromats, laundry and drycleaningdrop-off establishments, photographic studios, mailing orpackaging services, photocopy and blueprint services, hair salons andbarber/beauty shops, tanning and nail salons, tattoo parlors and bodypiercing establishments, massage therapy and day spas, dance or musicinstruction, martial arts classes, and psychics or mediums.Repair EstablishmentsUses primarily engaged in providing repair services for TVs, bicycles,clocks and watches, shoes, guns, canvas products, appliances, andoffice equipment, and including tailors, locksmiths, and upholsterers.Retail Sales EstablishmentsStores selling, leasing, or renting consumer, home, and business goods,whether new or used, including art and art supply stores, audio/videostores, bicycle sales, book stores, clothing stores, convenience stores,department stores, dry good sales, electronic equipment stores, fabricshops, furniture stores, florists, garden supply centers, gift shops,grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers,household products, jewelry stores, office supply stores, pet and petsupply stores, pharmacies, plant stores, and stationery shops.Laundry and dry-cleaning plants are considered Industrial Services.Building trade contractors with on-site storage that sell primarily tocontractors and do not have a retail orientation are classified asIndustrial Services.Repair and service of automobiles, motorcycles, and light and mediumtrucks is classified as Vehicle Sales and Service, except that light repairand service is an allowable accessory to vehicle sales uses.Bakeries, dinner theaters, or entertainment establishments primarilyengaged in the sale of food for on-site consumption are consideredEating Establishments.Cinemas, theaters, concert halls, and stages are considered IndoorRecreation/Entertainment.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE10.28
