Chapter 5: <strong>Development</strong> StandardsSECTION 5.1: OFF-STREET PARKING AND LOADINGSubsection 5.1.8: Loading Spaces(2) Bicycle parking spaces shall be provided at the rate of one bicycle parkingspace for every 30 residential dwelling units and/or every 5,000 square feet ofnonresidential floor area.(3) Bicycle facilities shall include a rack or other device to enable bicycles to besecured.B. Shared Bicycle ParkingNonresidential uses of 30,000 square feet in size or less may share bicycle parkingspaces provided:(1) Each use provides or is served by improved pedestrian access from the bicycleparking facility to the primary building entrance; and(2) The shared bicycle parking facility and improved pedestrian access is depictedon a site plan (see Section 2.4.7).5.1.8. Loading SpacesA. Standards(1) Minimum DimensionsEach loading space required by this subsection shall be at least 12 feet wide by30 feet long (or deep), with at least 15 feet of overhead clearance. Each offstreetloading space shall have adequate, unobstructed means for the ingressand egress of vehicles.(2) LocationWhere possible, loading areas shall be located to the rear of the use theyserve. Off-street loading spaces shall be configured to avoid the needfor vehicles to back up within the street right-of-way, to the maximum extentpracticable.(5) Single-Story BuildingsSingle-story office and personal services uses in buildings of 7,500 square feetor more are not required to provide dedicated loading zones, and may beserved by temporary loading spaces.(6) PavingThe ground surface of loading areas shall be paved with a durable, dust free,and hard material, such as surface and seal treatment, bituminous hot mix,Portland cement, concrete, or some comparable material. Such paving shall bemaintained for safe and convenient use at all times.(7) LandscapingLoading areas shall be landscaped in accordance with Section5.2.5, VehicularUse Area Landscaping.(8) Exterior LightingExterior lighting for loading areas shall comply with the standards in Section5.4, Exterior Lighting.CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE5.18
